"York County Human Services plays a vital role as a partner to keep children in school and receiving the education they need to succeed. Human Services has a multi-faceted approach which includes prevention, intervention, and treatment.

Through our Communities That Care initiative, community members come together to develop strategies to prevent children from becoming truant and or dropping out of school.

York County Children, Youth, and Families (YCCYF) is the agency designated by law to assist families who are experiencing truancy problems. YCCYF will visit a home to meet with the child and family, communicate with school personnel, and assess truancy issues. Once the root cause of a truancy issue is identified, Human Services has a multitude of service providers available to assist families to resolve the truancy issue and also provides mental health assessments, case management services, drug and alcohol assessments, and Family Group Decision Making. All these serve as intervention strategies."
